Satin, silk (real silk), brocade, velvet (the real kind, not the cheapo polyester stuff), bengaline, cashmere, and angora are all very nice, high quality (quality varies–you get what you pay for) fabrics or materials (the last two are knits). The only problem I can see with using them for a dog boutique is that none of them are machine washable, except for the two knits, and even those should be hand washed if possible. The others all need to be dry cleaned, and dry cleaning cannot completely remove things like urine, feces, vomit, and their associated staining and odors.
If you’re going to be a VERY high end business, and your customers don’t mind having to re-buy when something gets ruined, then you should be fine. If they won’t come back and re-purchase after Fido messes it up, then you will have a problem.
Sounds like a neat business–good luck!
Also consider using high-end polyester fleece fabrics – L.L.Bean, Eddie Bauer, Land’s End, and even Abercrombie&Fitch use them regularly for both people and dog items – they’re machine washable, toasty, and best of all, "green" (fabric is often made from recycled pop and water bottles), so your customers get to be ‘warm’ and ‘cool’ at the same time.
Fascinating idea – looking forward to seeing how it goes! .

International Journal of Clothing Science and Technology is one journal I know of.. There most likely is a good listing at the libary or closest large city libary..
Have fun and best wishes..
Kevlar is both expensive and bullet resistant.
I make dog vests for incompetent hunters, and would like to place some in your store. On consignment or something. They are attractively cut and come in several sizes, and I have already sold several to Dick Chaney’s friends, so I already have an established customer base.
We should talk.
